A lifelong Winnipegger, Ed Clarkson brings more than 40 years of railway experience spanning operations, infrastructure, maintenance, project coordination, and leadership. His career reflects a rare combination of hands-on railway knowledge, technical expertise, and operational management gained across both public and private sector rail environments.

Ed began his railway career with CP Rail's Yard Car Department in Winnipeg Yard before joining the Greater Winnipeg Water District Railway, a unique railway operation that plays a vital role in supporting and maintaining Winnipeg's aqueduct system. Over the years, he progressed through a variety of operational roles, including Track Worker, Trainman, and Engine Driver, before advancing into management as Aqueduct Railway Supervisor with the City of Winnipeg's Water and Waste Department.

Throughout his career, Ed developed extensive expertise in railway infrastructure, track maintenance, and operational planning. He played an important role in the planning and logistics of the Winnipeg Aqueduct Rehabilitation Project, a decade-long infrastructure initiative designed to preserve and modernize one of Manitoba's most critical public assets. Working alongside engineers, consultants, and contractors, Ed helped support a project that will ensure the continued delivery of clean drinking water to Winnipeg for generations to come.

Ed later brought his expertise to the private sector, serving in senior railway maintenance and infrastructure leadership roles with Prairie Rail Solutions, where he was responsible for Maintenance of Way and track-related operations.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Ed remains deeply connected to Manitoba's railway community. He currently volunteers as a conductor with the Prairie Dog Central Railway, helping preserve and celebrate the province's rich railway heritage while sharing that history with visitors from across Canada and beyond.

At Prairie Gateway Rail, Ed's practical railway knowledge, leadership experience, and deep understanding of rail infrastructure make him an invaluable member of the team. His commitment to safety, operational excellence, and continuous improvement supports Prairie Gateway Rail's mission to deliver reliable rail services and strengthen transportation connections for the communities and businesses we serve.
